Speak of Country is an immersive VR experience created in direct collaboration with Yuin Nation storytellers — a fusion of ancient wisdom and modern digital preservation.
Speak of Country demonstrates what immersive technology can do when placed in genuine service of community-led storytelling. Directed by Michael Beets in close partnership with Yuin Nation, this project combines spatial audio design, reality capture, and custom VR pipelines to preserve and share land-based narratives with authentic cultural authority — cultural stewardship through immersive video production.
"A fusion of ancient storytelling and modern digital preservation — land-based narrative made immersive."
— Project DocumentationHERE & NOW were commissioned to shoot the foundational media and build the full immersive interactivity. The project utilises interactive VR technology to preserve and share cultural heritage through land-based narratives — allowing audiences to experience Country as the Yuin Nation understand and inhabit it.
We developed a custom VR production pipeline that prioritised community-led narrative structures from the very first day. Rather than imposing a conventional documentary framework, every creative decision was guided by the storytellers themselves — ensuring the final experience carried authentic cultural authority. Spatial audio design was used to recreate the specific acoustic signature of each location, creating a genuine sense of physical presence in Country.
The Studio Value: We specialise in creating experiences that carry social weight. For organisations and brands looking to communicate values, heritage, or cultural identity, we provide the technical and creative sensitivity required to tell these stories with the care and precision they deserve.
